THE WEATHER HANDBOOK
Make sense of rainfall
Rainfall on Weather is an amount in inches for a stated period. Read the amount together with its time interval.
Find the interval you need
Select Rainfall above the hourly chart. The bars help you compare the displayed periods. The hourly row and the expanded day table show the amount, while the Period column tells you how many hours it covers. Later forecast entries can cover several hours.
Compare like with like
An amount of 0.10 in over six hours cannot be read as 0.10 in every hour. Use the time labels before comparing bars or making your own totals. The daily amount on this site is calculated from non-overlapping forecast periods. Today may cover only part of a calendar day.
Know what a blank means
N/A means an amount is unavailable for that entry. It does not mean dry weather. A displayed zero is the rounded forecast amount, and the weather icon is a separate summary. This site does not display a rain probability percentage or minute-by-minute rain radar.
Try it on your forecast
Open a place you know, look at the relevant section, and keep the guide nearby if a label is unclear.
